Report
Mom, Jeeves, and I arrived at 6:30 AM (yikes), unloaded our little Elantra, and waited for Scott and crew to arrive. We waited for around half an hour before Jeeves and Stefan ran off to photograph a nearby ship. Finally at around 7:30, Scott, Tony, and Grace arrived, after being delayed by that big lummox Tony, who had overslept. With the assistance of the MRHS volunteers, we had the tables offloaded in no time, and were prepping to set up the tables proper. The first table to be set up was the one for Scott's drop section. Jeeves made creative use of a Gerber. After a bit of finagling on the best way to attach the legs, we had most of the tables upright. This show was also the first test of Tony and Scott's new transport system for the modules, and it performed wonderfully. Setup and teardown should go much quicker now, and be a lot less stressful on us all. We slowly started laying out details and filling in the layout. Show open rolled around, and while we were still putting the finishing touches on the layout, by and large it was finished. Just a simple matter of adding details. The first couple of hours were rather uneventful, though the bullet train engine took a nosedive into the drop section, killing a minifig in the process and snapping a hole in Scott's ramp.
Throughout the day, the smaller loop was having fits, turning on and off, affecting the engines strangely, and such. Around 12:30, Grace and victoria made a run for Burger King, and much to our amusement, brought all the sandwiches back in a Hamburger patty box. After lunch, the show rushed quickly to an end. However, there was one last bit of fun as the BNSF took a slight spill, running over a few imperfections in the track. We were all ready to go home (and catch up on sleep), so we started pulling stuff about half an hour early. Everyone helped and we had the layout itself cleaned up rather quickly. The helpful volunteers from MRHS helped with the moving and heavy lifting of items, and from there it was simply a matter of waiting for Scott to get his turn in line for the dock. All during teardown, there was an off and on rain, and by the time Scott rolled up, it had decided to start raining again. Thanks to the MRHS volunteers however, everything was loaded up in no time, and we were able to head out for home.
This has quickly become one of our favorite shows, and we look forward to potentially two showings here next year. Everyone is always so friendly, and we always feel so welcome. So see y'all next time!
Thanks
MRHS - for hosting us at their show.
